CCW Psychological Evaluations
As a company dedicated to public safety psychological assessment, Law Enforcement Psychological Services (LEPS) has conducted CCW evaluations for decades. We pride ourselves on not only staying up to date with industry best practices, but in being at the forefront of the field.
Following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Bruen and the subsequent passage of California SB2, the practice of CCW psychological evaluations saw a seismic shift. To address these changing standards, LEPS, in consultation with legal advisors, pioneered a revised approach to conducting CCW evaluations that complies with the mandates of the Bruen.
This approach modifies a typical psychological screening to narrowly focus on the standard set out by the Court. Our review is tailored to address the legitimate concerns expressed by the Court and the State of California, while minimizing invasive inquiries and protecting Second Amendment Rights, as required by Bruen.
We strongly encourage CCW applicants to utilize a psychological assessment firm that not only has extensive experience conducting CCW psychological evaluations but also the requisite knowledge of quickly changing legal standards. Failure to appropriately attend to the mandates of Bruen can lead to the application of inappropriate rating standards (that of a police officer applicant for example), or unnecessarily evasive interview questions and/or records requests.
The evaluation process:
Please email or call our office to schedule an appointment ([email protected] - (408) 356-9696)). If your jurisdiction does not currently utilize our services and you would like to, please request the agency to consider accepting our CCW assessment services.
